Geres wins new Energy Globe World Award in Afghanistan
We are proud to announce that the Central Highlands program in Afghanistan has been distinguished in the “Air” category of the Energy Globe Awards for the solutions we promote in the rural areas of the country.
16 environmental organizations were invited to Yazd, Iran, this January to participate as finalists in the Energy Globe World Award ceremony, accompanied by a conference “Sustainable Town and Cities”. Five organizations became the Energy Globe World Award winners in five different categories: Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth.
We are very proud to announce that our Central Highlands Program in Afghanistan won in the category “Air” for the energy saving solutions our organization has been promoting and disseminating in rural areas of the country.
Theses solutions aim to reduce carbon emissions and also fight against deforestation, as wood is still a very common source of fuel in the highlands of the country where life conditions can be difficult.
The project has been ongoing since 2014, with the support of the French Development Agency, Fondation Abbé Pierre, Fondation Lord Michelham of Hellingly, and in partnership with Solidarités International and MADERA.
Mohammad Riaz Ramin, deputy director of GERES Afghanistan, had the honor to receive the prize. He congratulated the team dedicated to this program for this recognition and wished more successes for future projects and a renewed commitment to help the most vulnerable people.
